Furnace Safety & Carbon Monoxide

When a furnace is properly cleaned and maintained, it poses little risk of releasing unsafe levels of carbon monoxide. However, nearly every furnace is capable of emitting this deadly gas. To keep your family safe, we highly recommend that you install a carbon monoxide detector and alarm in your home. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these carbon monoxide safety measures. If you ever have a question about carbon monoxide, please call us.

Our Techs Are NATE-Certified

What does NATE-certified mean? NATE (North American Technician Excellence) is the nation’s largest independent, third-party non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration technicians. NATE-certified technicians like the ones at Moore Mechanical are skilled professionals who have proven their industry knowledge by passing specialized NATE -certification tests.

Unlike most companies, our NATE-certified technicians are trained to look at the system as a whole, not just the immediate problem. We are then able to let you know what the repairs are and offer suggestions to make your system run better and more efficiently, a benefit our customers greatly appreciate. Our trucks are well equipped to repair any brand air conditioning system you may have.

And the best part is: all repairs are guaranteed in writing to stay repaired for a full year!

How a Heater Works

In a furnace, fuel is burned and the heat produced goes through a heat exchanger into the air distribution system for the home. The blower, fan, and ductwork carry the warmed air to the rooms where it is needed. A vent pipe or flue transfers waste gases to the outside air. Furnaces come in different types, which include conventional upflow, horizontal, and downflow designs.

Components of a Heater

Air Ducts: This is basically the delivery method of your warm air that the furnace generates in order to heat your house.

Flue Pipe: Releases harmful air outside instead of in your home.

Gas Shutoff Valve/Gas Line: Where the gas is delivered. Helps you shut off the gas to the furnace at the end of winter or while performing any maintenance/repair on your furnace.

Flame Sensor, Pilot Light or Hot Surface Ignitor: Ignites the burner in order to heat the air that is to be disbursed through your ductwork.

Burner: Heats the air that passes through the furnace before the blower sends it through the ducts.

Thermostat: The control board of your furnace and is found mounted on the wall of your home.

Air Filters: Air filters trap dust, pollen, and other airborne particles as air moves through the air conditioning system. Air filters contribute to both reliable air conditioner operation and health, so we dedicated a page to them.
